ULI Singapore’s Young Leaders Group (YLG) recently organised an in-person event inviting the Afternaut Group to share their design conceptualisation process for Seedplaza, and had the audience debate about the feasibility of such a model in Singapore.
Many people might have misconceptions about a team of young people working on big projects, but at Afternaut, we’re proud to say that we use this to our advantage. We call ourselves space explorers, and the spaces we explore are our communities, which we’re constantly looking to improve. As a young company, we’re quick on our feet, resourceful, and adapt swiftly.
How does experience design work in bringing a project from paper to real life? Here is Afternaut's approach to designing and implementing projects from the beginning till project launch and operation.
Imagine you’re itching for a snack and want to just pop into a place nearby, grab something and go back home, especially in the current climate when we need to be avoiding crowded areas. Take a break and step into Comma, an unmanned and frictionless design convenience store.
Berlin Lee, Zhe Wei Chong and Kokyong Chew came together to establish Afternaut back in 2017, when Formwerkz realised it needed to expand its scope of capabilities to include emerging design disciplines. Afternaut helps to create and turn great innovative customer experiences into business growth for its clients through design conceptualisation, implementation and operation.
Buying a new home is one of the biggest purchases that anyone would make in their lives so we wanted to make the experience memorable for the new homeowners of Seedland’s properties. We were already working on the designs for Seedland’s residential units, as well as developing their sales galleries, a touchpoint for them to portray their brand, lifestyle, and conduct sales of their properties.
When decentralising the shopping mall, we didn’t want to just move it into a local neighbourhood. We built a plaza that is an extension of the home by providing convenient services that the residents of the nearby community would use. From Afternaut’s design research, we discovered that there were a lot of multi-generational families living in Seedplaza’s vicinity. So we designed services that would meet their needs.
