Considerable care and thought has gone into the interior design of this charmingly run and intimate three-storey shophouse, the origin of which dates from 1926. Inspired by the Taiwanese chef-owner’s cuisine that is founded on 8 philosophies (Unique, Pure, Texture, Memory, Salt, South, Artisan, Terroir); the design is contemporary French in essence, innovative and sophisticated – instilled with some playful elements and a dash of theatre thrown in for surprises.
The refreshing and exciting twist to traditional European cuisine through is evident in the Chef’s use of inventive culinary techniques such as molecular gastronomy. This twist is echoed in the design of the interior which observes a blend of traditional and new; practicing sensitivity to existing shophouse components while employing fresh materiality.
The space, furniture and fixtures such as easily movable pendant lighting on rods, can be reconfigured to cater to different group settings at the restaurant. Satin glass walls allow for a spectacle of diffused light, shadow and movement to be suggestively revealed by their translucent quality - a slow flurry of activity constantly unfolds.
The restaurant was awarded 2 Michelin Stars in 2016 and featured in a Netflix documentary in 2020.
